Finals! November 9, 2009

Hey everyone,

Today marks the start of a very scary week for me.

Today is my very first paper of my finals this semester. This week, I have 4 papers altogether to take. Which means a whole week of sleepless nights.

Part of me is extremely nervous to the point where every freaking minute I am thinking if I have done enough for my finals. I can tell you, the answer is no. I have never felt this unprepared for my finals before, in my entire 15 years of schooling life.

Yet, part of me is excited. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because starting my first paper means I am a step closer to the last one. Maybe it’s because it means I am going home soon; the semester break is coming. I don’t know. I am just excited. =)

On twitter, Paulo Coelho wrote “When you want something, all the universe conspires to help you” and then later he wrote “The whole universe helps when you want something. It does not select positive or negative thoughts. Be careful.”

So, I am going to end this post by saying,

PLEASE MR./MISS/MRS. UNIVERSE. I WANT TO REMEMBER WHAT I NEED TO REMEMBER FOR MY FINAL EXAMS THANKYOUVERYMUCHYOUKNOWILOVEYOU!

Tomorrow I take my final test and pass up the last report I am going to write for this semester.

I should be letting out a sigh of relief but I can’t. Next week is my study week already. In 2 weeks, the final exams season starts. The only thing I am looking forward to is a month later. I will be flying home =)

How fast time flies. Already I am finishing my third semester and I’m moving into my fourth semester. 3 more semesters before I graduate and become a degree holder.

Honestly, I cannot wait for this semester to end. This semester was one tough one for me in every aspect.

Academically, it has been a huge disappointment. Compared to last year, I don’t think my subjects are as difficult as the subjects I took last semester yet I am performing much much worse than before. If you have been following my blog, my academic results are extremely important to me. I know that my academic results are not everything but they do matter, a lot. I did not manage to get into the Dean’s list last semester, I don’t see that happening this semester. I have a goal of graduating with at least a CGPA of 3.50. After this semester, I am gonna have to do damn blardy well for the next 3 semesters. Sigh.

Physically, well, I obviously haven’t been taking care of myself. I’ve been falling sick more frequently and I’ve been having frequent headaches which are not a good sign. I either sleep to little or too much. Most of the time I don’t take lunch (No, I am NOT trying to lose weight so don’t worry. I just don’t feel like eating lunch sometimes) and late at night I eat junk. The only exercise I get is when I walk to classes. I know how bad my lifestyle is right now, which is why I’ve made it a point to walk to ALL my classes. Even if it means walking uphill.

If I were to sum up this whole semester in one word, it has to be disappointment. I was expecting to do much better this semester, I thought I would be able to pull my grades up; I thought my time management would be better; I thought I would be able to perform better in many other things in many ways but I did not.

I did not do a lot of things I thought I would and I said I would.

Now, all I wanna do is do my best in the coming final exams and not make this disappointment any worse.

I have a lot of self-reflection to do for this semester but one thing is for sure, I am not going to give up on anything. I still remember telling myself that I am not going to graduate from University asking myself “What have I achieved?” Nopes, that is not going to happen. I won’t let it happen.

Keep Burning =)

Keep Burning =)

“Keep Burning” I have to keep telling myself that and I will.

Yes, I know. I have been missing yet again.

Me, messing from this blog is sort of a good thing, cause that means I am super busy.

Last week, I attended an event called Global Village (see the poster of previous post hehe) and it was AWESOME. Yeah, no pictures yet but if you have my FB you can check the photos out there =)

Tomorrow will be AIESEC in USM’s Local Leadership Development Seminar (LLDS) and I am super excited. I still am not prepared for the conference though, yikes!

Next week, I will be having 3 tests, 2 reports to pass up (wait I think it’s 3, I better check) and a presentation the following week.

Yes, this is the life of Jessica Loi the dimpled university girl. Do you want to be in my shoes?

Despite all this, I am still having loads of great time. =D

Till next time. Please keep coming back for pictures. I have ssoooooo many pictures to show you guys!

Till then, Auf Wiedersehen!

A New Chapter…again July 7, 2009

A new chapter.

To me, that’s what every semester is. At every chapter, there are always new stories to tell.

Yups, I am back in USM :) I am now living the same hostel, new block, new room and a new roommate.

When I was moving my stuff, it reminded me of the first itme I stepped into USM. I remembered the whole emotional turmoil haha kidding. I remembered the emotions I felt. Well, it’s different this time.

I came back to USM happy, I guess because I had an amazing holiday (a holiday where I barely updated my blog xp).

I facilitated a conference in UPM (MYC) and met amazing people and some are from different countries. I learned so much from the delegates (who are much younger than me btw), the other facilitators and the Organising Committee (OC). A few words to sum up my experience at MYC – awesome, amazing, inspiring, worthwhile.

I attended the National Convention (NatCon) and had an amazing time with my team from LC USM (each AIESEC in each university is called a Local Committee, LC). We cracked out brains to plan for our LC’s future together. We shared our stories together. We talked rubbish and pillow-talked, together. We joked, laughed and cried, together. We were lame, serious, crazy and spontaneous, together. Me, being part of the ‘together’ on each sentence – wonderful :)

Later, I went to Singapore with LittleSis Loi and spent some time with her, BigSis Loi and little Alex. I had soooo much fun! I even got to meet up with Michelle there! Oh wait, you guys might not know her cause I haven’t wrote about MYC. *guilty*

Oh after that I went to Port Dickson for a one night trip with the eXtended femerie. X)

Then Jitsan (my ex-roommate) came to Subang! and now I am here, typing this.

I haven’t had proper rest at all during the holidays and I probably wouldn’t be getting sleep in uni, but you know what, I love every minute of my holidays.

With such an amazing holiday, I am super excited about the new semester! Who knows what will happen in this semester, right? XD.

Hello darlings!

I’m in UPM (University Putra Malaysia) now! I will be here for 8 days for the MIRACLE Youth Conference.

MYC is a conference that talks about Environmental issues and I’m here as a facilitator. I’m super excited! I was a delegate of this conference in 2006 but now I’m a facilitator :)

Will blog when I can since UPM’s wireless imposes a 40 hours limit to the usage and the account I am using is already at its 30 hours.

See everyone soon!

Field Work at Muka Head May 19, 2009

Something really sucky happened in Muka Head.

The 8gb SD Card I just bought failed me. After 2 days and more than 250 pictures later, my pictures decided to play hide-and-seek with me. When I turned on my camera, all that was displayed on my camera screen was the horrific words – “No Images”. The funniest thing was the pictures were not deleted. They are still inside the SD Card as I type, just no where to be found.

So I tried using some softwares to retrieve my pictures. It worked! But to save whatever I’ve recovered requires me to buy the damn program. I’ve tried numerous free softwares too. Nothing works. Should I buy the software? Oh, it’s only like RM 141. Shit.

Sigh. My favourite photos are in that dumb memory card. Anyway sad story aside. Lucky thing I brought along another memory card, so I continued taking photos.

Let me do a little explaining. A biology student of USM has to take this subject called BOI 105: Ecology and Biodiversity Practical where, for 5 days, we will be at the Center for Marine and Coastal Studies (CEMACS) for our Ecology Practical and another 5 days will be spent in USM’s Bio Labs for our Biodiversity Practical.

We were split into 2 groups – Group A and B. I was in Group A where we were to do our Ecology Practical first from the 3rd May till 8th May.

When we arrived, it was raining. We hiked to Muka Head in the rain. That evening when we arrived, we had to hike uphill to set up traps, it was raining. It blardy rained for 2 days! The minute I see the sun, I ran out and sat on the jetty under the sun. You cannot imagine how precious the sun was at that moment.

Overall despite the rain and damp weather, the whole trip there was super fun! It was seriously like going to class, but this is so much more interactive and it is outdoor.

Everyday, after our practical ends we spend our time on the beach. It was like a private beach specially there for us. =)

#1.

#1. The tide was coming in.

#2.

#2. The said jetty, where my course mates and I spend most of our free time.

#3.

#3. Barnacles on the columns, an indicator how high the water level is during high tide.

#4. Sun setting on the other side of the hill gives a beautiful reddish hue to the sky.

#5.

#5. View from the jetty.

I saw so many organisms, some a little strange like the Sand Dollar. If I did not learn about this in class I wouldn’t have known that the Sand Dollar was actually a living thing.

#10. Button Shells [Genus: Umbonium sp.]

#10. Button Shells (Nerd facts: Phylum: Mollusca, Class: Gastropoda)

During this field trip, I got to know so much more about my course mates who I’ve never talked to before. Seriously, if you’d see me in class, I’m a little out of place. At least I feel like it. Not anymore though :)

Muka Head is an amazingly beautiful place. Hopefully it will continue being that way. I don’t know bout my friends, but I returned from Muka Head reassured that I am in the right course.

So you know what, screw my damn memory card. At least I know that I have the memories I created there with me forever.

No I didn’t get left behind during my field trip to the State National Park in Penang. The reason why I have not updated till now is cause, well, I haven’t edited the pictures to be posted up yet. Hehe. Sorry.

2.
I went all the way to Klang for Bak Kut Teh today.

3.
I went to Subang Parade with family and finally got the Talentime soundtrack album =) and I registered myself as a voter XD Yes yes, SPR opened a counter in Subang Parade (right in front of Uncle Lim) so go register yourself!

4.
And that is all for today. Cause I have not bathed and is having a hard time trying to get my pictures back from the idiotic memory card.

So for now, lemme entertain you guys with a few pictures.

This is a Orang Utan, preserved and owned by the Bio School of USM. This lab practical was about Chordates (simply put, vertebrates) so we had alot of specimens to examine (their features etc). We had to draw them too. Yes, we had to draw this Orang Utan.

Let me tell you, drawing is not an easy thing to do.

Names of so-called artists will not be revealed because I can’t remember which drawing belongs to who. Hehe.

But I do remember which is mine. 1 buck for the first person who guesses it right!

(My coursemates are not eligible to join this mini-competition.)

Longest Minutes April 27, 2009

The longest minutes will be

when the invigilator asks us to stop writing and to check if we’ve written all the necessary details on our answer sheet.

when the invigilators collect our papers, taking their own sweet time torturing us. I am certain that inside they are smirking, saying “Hah, let them wait longer in this cold freezing hall. They don’t need to taste freedom that soon”.

when all the answer sheets have been collected and the invigilators start counting them. At that moment, I will be shuffling around on my sit, restless and excited. My heart will probably be pounding fast.

Then!

the head invigilator announces those sweet words I long to hear, “You may exit the hall now”.

Alas! Freedom. Aah, I can taste sweet freedom at the tip of my tongue. It’s coming. Finally.

And so my loves, I should get back to studying my very last paper of the semester – Calculus. You do not know how happy I am to have this semester end. Not that I didn’t enjoy it; it is just tiring i guess.

Oh, and welcome back my darling shortee from the states Audrey Chow. XD See you soon!

When in Subang:

1.
DaddyLoi saw a naked man at the corridors of my apartment. He (my Dad) was smoking at looking outside. Slowly he turns to me and calmly said “There’s a naked man outside”. No, I did not immediately run to the door. Anyway, i shall refer the naked man as The Naked Man now wtf. The Naked Man ran as soon as he noticed my dad. DaddyLoi later on reported to the security guards. Apparently the guards have been looking for The Naked Man for months now. Creepy.

2.
Watched American Idol. Oh. My. God. I cannot believe it I am missing AI this year!! Yerrrr. I wanna watch Adam Lambert and Kris Allen perform. I love Allison. Adam Lambert is so good looking. He looks like Elvis and Barbie Ken merged into one! Sigh. I hope I can watch the finals at least!

3.
I went to Sunway Pyramid to do some shopping. The main item I was looking forward to buying was the Talentime soundtrack which in the end, I did not buy. Why? Because, as big as pyramid is, there are only 3 stores selling albums – Video Ezy, Speedy and Tower Records. Video Ezy and Tower Records does not have the album. Speedy (apparently) has no stock of that album. Sigh sigh. I want the album badly.

4.
Went yumcha with Clem, Ding, Jon, Shawn and Andy. Talked till late about all the rubbish in the world. We went to Tanjung, our former haunt. It was packed for unknown reasons. I thought Tanjung lost its popularity edi! Had loads of fun. I laughed so hard when Ding started talking about polar bears swimming and when we started with all the lame jokes in the world. One example! What fish has no power? You all sure cannot answer one! No prize for those who can.

I am back in Penang now. Just arrived today.

1.
Will be alone in the room for a week cause my roomate, Jit San has already gone home =(

2.
I still have to face one last paper – Calculus. Bleh. =(

3.
I miss home already =(

4.
But I am looking forward to all the plans I have in Penang!
